I wanted to give you all a pre-weekend update.
1. The Profile Viewer formatting has been updated/corrected. A user will now see the text/HTML module as they should. This should allow us to complete the work to take these pages live-minus a Jay Space page, at about any time. Christian, please review when you can to confirm. We could then hook these pages in at any time, with your approval...then work toward including the Jay Space home page when you are ready, if that is the direction you go.
2. Navigation formatting is also updated/getting wrapped up. Again, I just need Christian to review/approve. (right hand nav formatting)
3. I have added the Users Online modules to both the search and Find a Friend. Please tell me what you think. I have made slight differences between each. Which do you prefer?
I had people come into my office and take up the last two hours of my day unexpectedly. So, I am creating a note to revise postcard content and get it to you this weekend or Monday instead of today as discussed with Christian. My apologies for the delay.
Happy Holidays.
Darren
Mary-
Thank you for your email. I have spoken to Christian about this issue and questions posed in an email on the 13th that were addressed, but only partially it appears. Here is the action being taken and additional clarification. (essentially a recap of Christian's conversation with me.)
For these items:
How might we assemble the different modules in one place on the site for our admitted students? (Even just a walk through would be good. ) Can the “who’s online” module actually be used to connect students so that they might see each other’s profiles and chat? When the “find a friend” module results in “friends,” the linked names open to pages not found. Do you know when the text/html will be displaying correctly on each person’s profile. As of yesterday, 12:40 p.m. folks at JT were still unsure what was wrong? Can the user interface on editing profiles and searching other users profiles be improved soon?
1. Relative to the admitted student pages and information: We recommend a link from the community page to this location on your AdmissionsGenie be created and put into place. That way we are not duplicating information or trashing up the Community page with too much content. Christian agreed and will manage this.
2. The "Who's Online" module is already on the Community page. I recommended making it viewable. It does not currently allow a direct click on a user to their profile, but I recommended that it be used never the less. We also agreed to add it to the profile search. Darren/James Tower is taking care of that today.
3. The issue of find a friend was addressed that same day and discussed between Christian and Darren. That is concluded.
4. I promised Christian an update at 2pm. This is being worked on. This is the responsibility of Darren/James Tower.
5. This is in the pipeline for future discussion as an enhancement, since there are no barriers to use of this functionality...it is simply a matter of making it even easier. Christian has confirmed through test with your current students that the use of this is not a barrier. This does not negate a need to improve and that will be addressed in the future.
Ok...now on to these items:
“Create your profile” - My concern with this echoes Mary’s that this might not be as user-friendly as it needs to be, “as easy as facebook,” I think Mary said.
- Also, I have not heard whether the profiles are able to viewed correctly after editing (in particular, the html/text area)
“Blog & chat with new friends” - I KNOW that not everyone can blog. This copy will change, but . . .
- How about chatting with friends? If this is not available, please let us know so that we can adjust these expectations.
“Register for upcoming events” - Right now, the Activity Report for Events is not functioning, so we can’t get a report of registrations.
- We don’t have a mechanism to approve a registration.
- We don’t know to create categories or locations for events.
“Upload pictures and videos” - Of course, this is a part of creating a profile (and users can only embed, not upload, videos), but it has the same issues as the first item, basically.
1. This is part of the issue above and will be addressed in the 2pm update to Christian.
2. Blogging is not recommended....but use of the same tool in creative ways that might mirror a Facebook "Wall" was discussed. We are going to get things fixed first and then see what we can do. This is shelved for the moment...but top of mind consideration. Darren and Christian will follow up with each other. In addition, we will add an IM box with service provided drop down to the user profile listing. Darren/James Tower is managing this.
3. The Events Module issues are still outstanding and being corrected.
4. When the text/html issue (2pm update) is done...this is done.
Finally, we discussed the issue of accessing the Profiles/Social Networking area. There was some discussion of what is desired versus what we do. Christian-interpreting the wishes of Mary-wants the page I have set up as the Creighton Social Networking landing page (from which all other social network/profile functions are accessible) to be the JaySpace "home" that ALL users can see. As discussed, Christian either needs to make these changes so the page looks and says what Creighton wants...or provide the information to Darren and we will build the page. I also mentioned that, this is not typical of what we do for an AdmissionsGenie site, but is only a variation and as such is perfectly acceptable. In addition, the "Recently Added Profiles" serves as a alternate access point, so this will work as an approach. After the text/html issue is resolved (for discussion at 2pm) we can do the proper page redirect so that this is in place...regardless of the status of JaySpace, if desired.
Similarly, following a 2pm update, Darren will provide suggested revisions to the postcard content by 5pm today, so this can be concluded.
We agreed Darren would provide an email summary of the conversation. Christian will provide additional clarification if I missed anything.
If this is as clear as mud, please do not hesitate to call or email.
Thanks! I will be speaking with Christian around 2pm.
Darren
Hey all,
Is there a response to this? We are running out of time to get this thing marketed before the holidays. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks- Mary

Subject: Admit Website Postcard
Hi, Cathy,
I’m sending this follow up to our meeting to further elaborate Mary’s concern. I have attached the postcard that we haven’t sent out as the website issues/questions get resolved.
Obviously, the main claim of the piece is that you can join the Creighton social network. The four key selling points under that claim are as follows:
- “Create your profile”
- My concern with this echoes Mary’s that this might not be as user-friendly as it needs to be, “as easy as facebook,” I think Mary said.
- Also, I have not heard whether the profiles are able to viewed correctly after editing (in particular, the html/text area)
- “Blog & chat with new friends”
- I KNOW that not everyone can blog. This copy will change, but . . .
- How about chatting with friends? If this is not available, please let us know so that we can adjust these expectations.
- “Register for upcoming events”
- Right now, the Activity Report for Events is not functioning, so we can’t get a report of registrations.
- We don’t have a mechanism to approve a registration.
- We don’t know to create categories or locations for events.
- “Upload pictures and videos”
- Of course, this is a part of creating a profile (and users can only embed, not upload, videos), but it has the same issues as the first item, basically.
Please let us know as soon as possible about any resolution to these issues.
Perhaps there are other more enticing selling points that would be better suited to our current version of AG. Please let us know if that is the case.
Yours,
Christian
