RE: Blogging for Admissions

Acknowledge.  (You are the Sherlock Holmes of Browser issues!!!!)

Best of luck with the World Lit class.  So, 1650….that includes Beowulf and Celtic writings, up through Medieval times, correct?

Hi, Darren,
Yes, I’m teaching (World Lit I – Ancient lit. to 1650). Plus, I’m taking a computer programming class. I’ll be a bit busy, I’m thinking.

Re: PNG
Don’t worry about it. I’ve discovered that transparency isn’t natively supported in IE6 (which, as I’ve just researched, is still used by 21% of our visitors). So I can either change them to gifs, which I’ll probably do, or leave it be.

Yours,
Christian

No…it isn’t that…it is more the general impatience of young people now a days!!!  Let us know if you need assistance on this.  I know Bryan Hurley from our group is  also going to look at this, so if you resolve it on your own…please let us know.

I honestly do not have IE 6 on my machine any longer, so I don’t have a good way of checking this.  I will see if I can or perhaps Bryon can push this question to our support team??  (Bryon?)

Relative to the Security Warning issue….this will be able to be corrected with the pending upgrade, per James Ward.  I have been pushing him on when this will occur.  I will message him again to see if he has set a timeframe.  All I know at this second is it is soon. Personally, I wish it was yesterday, as it is also going to allow us to advance the Wall in profiles.

I will let you know.  We will talk later.  Best of luck with classes tomorrow.  I assume you are teaching again?

How dare you disparage the know-how of a Creighton student. The nerve!

Except that you’re probably right. I’ll delete the blogs and get in touch with him.

Re: the Faces profiles (admissions.creighton.edu/faces)
Thanks. Bryon helped me with the buttons. I have a question, though. I was looking at the site on IE 6 and noticed that we have some very strange (to me) behavior with the .png that we’re using for their quotes in the middle of the pages and the “Faces of Creighton Logo” in the ContentPane4 area. I created those images without the blue backgrounds that they are displaying in IE6. Why would they show up like that?

Also, I’ve noticed that the sidemenu is also being bumped down to the bottom on some of these pages. Do you know why? It’s also happening on the undergraduate home page.

Lastly, how is that Security Warning issue coming along?
Do you know when we might be able to see this resolved?

I can’t talk about the Articles tomorrow. It’s the first day of class and things have been busy enough as it is. We’ll talk soon, though.
Yours,
Christian

If I may offer an opinion, it appears that perhaps this individual accidentally created three new blogs instead of updating a single blog. What he describes as being unavailable could be from some unusual combination of clicking a back button/refresh, etc.  We may simply need to just delete the two copies and then he can move forward with just the one.

Otherwise, we should get on the phone with the student and recreate what was done in order to effectively troubleshoot in all likelihood. Thoughts?

Bryon-If the team comes up with any additional ideas, please share.

Christian-I really like the new navigation buttons and the new profiles you have posted on your AG site.  Great work.  Things are looking top notch!  Also, I can do a discussion of the Articles module tomorrow if you like.  Sorry for the previous tie ups on my end.

Christian,

I just tried posting my blog and when I tried posting it, the page came up and said new blog is unavailable.  And about 10 minutes later I tried to check and it had my blog posted 3 times, so I was wondering what the problem might be.

Thanks,
Liam

Christian,

I just tried posting my blog and when I tried posting it, the page came up and said new blog is unavailable.  And about 10 minutes later I tried to check and it had my blog posted 3 times, so I was wondering what the problem might be.

Thanks,
Liam

RE: FTP site

Hi Christian,

Just an update.

James and Darren are going to discuss some options for this. At this point I am unsure as if we will be able to provide direct FTP access to the site due to security reasons.

We will keep you posted with any further developments.

Thank you,

Hi, Bryon,
That was the conversation prior to our meeting on June 30 – July 1.
Here’s what Darren said in the last communication I have (July 23):
Security Warning Issue

  1. This is currently a limitation of the system.  We are working on a solution that will be added to the product road map.  We envision allowing the  admin user could flag a page as needing to be secured.  Only the flagged pages would go into SSL mode.  In the interim, Christian has been working with our team to update pages manually.  He is coordinating this through Bryon Kuehn.

Additionally, I put together a list of the pages requiring SSL that I sent to you and Darren (on 7/14). I have attached it again.

Please let me know what will be done and by when we might expect it. I’m sorry to hear that this was not being addressed, as I thought we were all moving along on this.

I look forward to hearing back from you.
Yours,
Christian

Hi Christian,

I believe I talked with Orfa in regards to this. It is due to the fact that some of your external links are going to non secure (http) pages but the URL is secured (https). To get this to go away all links would need to be referenced as secure (https).

Does that answer your question at all?

According to your web site you are the MN rep for Creighton.  I am in the process of looking at suitable colleges for me.  My plan is to obtain an Engineering Degree, not yet determined which type but probably something with building or designing.

I have been to your web site but I am having difficulty going on each of your pages on the web site.  I have only encountered this problem on your web site and not on any of the other college web sites I have visited.  Every time I want to move to another section or read something on your web site a security blocker comes up and I have to click yes to continue.  It makes viewing your web site very hard because I cannot forward, backwards or anywhere around it.  Is there a way to get rid of that blocker so it does not appear every time I click on anything on your web site?

Do you have Engineering Degrees at Creighton?  I have gone to your academic site and did not see it.  When I did a search engine on Engineering Degrees it did not list it but listed a number of other web sites for me to access on pharmacy and nursing.  When I tried entering your professional web site it did not list Engineering there either.  Am I missing it or do you not have an Engineering program at Creighton?

RE: Attribute and Forms questions

Hi Christian,

I apologize for the delay in getting back to you on your questions below.

  • Can a website change in an attribute overwrite RPlus? Potentially yes, If you are using the file that we export from AdmissionsGenie with all web users changes. If you are importing this file into RecruitmentPlus, then there is the potential for the website values to “overwrite” what is currently on file.
  • Can we have module-specific attributes? Currently the More Info Module is the only module that supports module specific attributes.
  • Is it possible to have the Forms module just email the filled out form and thus not require user registration or login (like we are currently doing with Blueox)? This is not possible the way the module currently works. I can add this request to the Enhancements to Consider list for you.

If you have any further questions in regards to any of these items, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you,

Hi, Bryon,
As we were meeting about the attributes, a few questions came up to which I didn’t immediately know the answer and thought that I’d ask you:

  • Can a website change in an attribute overwrite RPlus?
  • Can we have module-specific attributes?
  • Is it possible to have the Forms module just email the filled out form and thus not require user registration or login (like we are currently doing with Blueox)?

When you get a chance, please let me know what you find out.
Yours,
Christian
