Hi, Mary,
Is there a way to update the calendar feed to this:
http://calendar.creighton.edu/feed.xml?uc=151&endDate=2013-01-01
That way we can at least get the events coming up.
I don’t think I can change this.

RE: Are we ready for Takeoff

It would require some javascript hoop jumping that I’m not capable of as the “advance” would have to relay a pause back to You tube (or where ever the video is) to pause the video.

The slider is a Jquery freebee Christian if you want to use it you can.  And yes it can have videos and images as well as straight text.  The one thing it does not do (and I’ve not found one that can do this) is if someone starts a video then clicks to advance to another slide, the original video will not stop.  It continues to play.

Other than that it’s a nice slider.

Hi, Mary,
Thanks for the heads-up on those links.
I’ll look at them.
I think we are pretty much ready to go otherwise.
Peter’s designing some stuff for the site landing pages.
I’m working on forms, too, because those go away tomorrow as well.

I was talking to Peter and thought I’d ask you:
Do you think Admissions can use the Business slider and restyle it? Do you think COBA would mind? I don’t see why they would as Peter or I would make it look more like our site.
I like that the business slider can contain links and/or video.
What do you think?

This seems to be crunch time for all of us.

Yeah that’s doable.  No actually we’ll be using the page/section class to determine the color.

What color for prospective students/school counselors/

The 24th is the deadline for any little changes (this would be considered little), the 22 for any medium and we’re past the deadline for any major changes.  So warn those who like designing by committee that if they keep speaking up they’ll be copying it all into wordpress………………. I didn’t say that out loud did I?  I tend to say wayyyyy too much out loud.

Hi, Mary,
So the admissions staff has been looking at the site and one person in particular is concerned that it’s too “blah.”
One of the suggestions she had (and I do think it’s a good one) is that the side menus change color to indicate the section they are in.
I have played around with this idea, and this is not quite right, mind, you but something like this is what I believe she’s asking for (see attached).
It seems like we’d have to have different templates for each section in order to do this, is that right? We’d be extending the class of the “subnav-outer”  with “about_nav” for instance which would change the background color of the div and ul.

Does that make sense?
Am I right about needing to change the template then?

Christian

Hi, Mary,
I’m getting a funny behavior with the Financial info button. It seems to be associated with the “Print this page” script.
The button and script seem to be overlapping. If you mouse over the button it works, the cursor changes. But you can sometimes move it over the button and it doesn’t change. If you click it, it brings up the print dialogue.
I imagine that would be frustrating.

Alternating color bars

Hi, Mary,
Is there a way to have the alternating color appear on some tables but not others?
I like it on the tables on this page:
http://typo3.creighton.edu/admissions/about/outcomes/index.php
But I don’t like it as much on these pages:
About
Academics
Student Life
Visit
Apply
Financial Info

I thought your “nocolor” class might get rid of the stripes, but apparently not.

When you get a chance, of course.

RE: Breadcrumbs

My feeling is yes.  Your navigation isn’t exactly usual so I think breadcrumbs would be good.

I’d probably put it directly under the logo/top colorful navigation.  Home page doesn’t really need it.

Oh, I found one extension that will work great for your slider as well as a TON of other things.

One extension does:  No styling or configuration was done other than creating the media page (the top link) and the content page.

Extension pulls the content from other content – on one page or many.  And does….>

Hi,
Do you think we need breadcrumbs on the site?
I was thinking of this over the weekend. It may have been an oversight on Peter’s part but it seems to be a kind of requirement. I think, so, anyway.
What do you think?

RE: Home page

It made a little sense.  The only problem I for see is people getting down to the footer to find those links.

You over for the meeting tomorrow?  We could talk about it then if we promise to not get off on another tangent J.

Hi, Mary,
1.        Subpage navigation.  I asked you about this earlier but just remembered we got off on a tangent (imagine that?).   Your pink, lilac, green buttons will take them to the main pages but there are sections without links to them and all the subpages to the main ones.  You may have already figured this out in the content.

Yes, the audience-specific pages are a bit of a problem.
While we intend to make it easy on the home page to jump to the right area:
Undergrad
International
Graduate
Professional
Adult

it seems that we also need to bring in those other audiences:
High School Students

  • seniors
  • sophomores
  • juniors

Parents
Counselors
Volunteers

Do you think we could use the footer to repeat the buttons:
About
Academics
Student Life
Visit
Apply
Financial Info

But also these audiences, rather than the sub pages?

Right now in the footer design, we have Navigation in 3 columns.
Could we have 3 columns as follows:
1. Heading: Navigation
 About
Academics
Student Life
Visit
Apply
Financial Info

2. Heading: Information For
High School Students

  • seniors
  • sophomores
  • juniors

Parents
High School Counselors
Volunteers

3. Heading: Prospective Students
Undergrad
International
Graduate
Professional
Adult

Let me know if this makes no sense.
Yours,
Christian

Christian.  I think I’ve got everything but the home page and maybe some content styling.
Remaining Questions
1.        Subpage navigation.  I asked you about this earlier but just remembered we got off on a tangent (imagine that?).   Your pink, lilac, green buttons will take them to the main pages but there are sections without links to them and all the subpages to the main ones.  You may have already figured this out in the content.

2.        Are you going to remove “Undergraduate Admissions” and move everything up one level?  I’d be happy to do this for you if you want.  I need to know as some of the typoscripts need the level the pages are on.

3.       Not really a question.  I think I’ll put the twitter feed on another page and pull it into the home.  Ditto the Calendar.

a.       Now this is a question and I know we started talking about it but the tangents got us.

                                                              i.      Do you have a calendar at Creighton calendars – we shouldn’t have any problems styling this the way you want (how do you want it?)

ii.      Let me know the search terms you want me to use in the Twitter update.

iii.      News…. The home page has two “News” sections.  Did I become a total space cadet when you were talking about this?  Did you want two and how did you want to handle it (them)?  In other words.  You can manually update the “news” (one or both) or we can grab the most current news item from a specific place(s – the plural is for two news spots…).  To do it automatically you’ll have to put the news in one location (either on one page or on pages under one page).  It gets harder if we try to consolidate from more than one location – but doable.  I didn’t see a News section on your current site (or this new one for that matter) so I don’t know how you have it set up now.

I can place the new (er--est) template(s) on the admissions page anytime you want and continue to develop it from there if you want.

One word of warning.  Any big changes (wishes dreams can be done as change requests but only later… ) from here on out will have to be change requests after the site goes live.  Obviously that doesn’t mean my fixing any of my bone headed boo boos.

RE: Home page

Not a problem (on either score).  I often send one question per email but really that’s not good etiquette.  So I try (and try and try, ask Josh how trying I am).

I’ll move them in a few.
