Hi, Bryon,
I have been contacted by a student who has tried registering, but her information is not being matched with the imported information.
You can easily find her by email: colleen.patton@mac.com
At one point, she had registered six times, so she had six accounts. I deleted all of them, finally, and tried registering for her with the information we have in from the import, but that didn’t work either.
Could you look into this and let me know why this isn’t working?
Yours,
Christian

Hi, Bryon,
I wanted to ask about a few things regarding the website:
  1. Events – Can I get an update on this? The last time I checked, we were having the same issues that we’ve had since November. Please see the Website Issues blog for details: http://cuwebsite.blogspot.com/
  2. Forms – Do you know if this module is ready to go? We’ve been having Jane Gleason create forms for us because of issues with the forms. In all honesty, I don’t know what the issues were as Orfa had mostly been working with James Tower on this. Anything you can tell me would be useful.
  3. Role auto-assign – Have you made any decisions about when and how often this can be run without affecting performance of the site? Please let me know.
  4. Blogs – I would still like to segregate the blogs so that we can have student, faculty and staff and parent blogs. The last time I tried this, however, it created a bunch of duplicate child blogs of those we already have. The blogging issues are also all over the Website issues blog, http://cuwebsite.blogspot.com/
  5. Hot and Live Topics on the Website Issues blog: As I have only invited you today to be a reader of the Website Issues blog, you will not be aware that I have created labels for the posts so that it is easier to see what issues are hot (urgent), live (still to be addressed) and resolved. The hot topics are at http://cuwebsite.blogspot.com/search/label/Hot%20topics. The live topics are at http://cuwebsite.blogspot.com/search/label/Live%20topics. I would like to find out what’s going on with all of these issues.
In light of the extent of these requests for information, it might be a good idea to have a conference call so that we can talk. No doubt things will come up that are not included in this email. Perhaps we can get Orfa in on it, too.
Yours,
Christian

RE: Chat page rendering weirdness

Christian-

I am sorry I wasn't able to participate in the chat event last night.  I went to bed just as it was starting with a 101 temperature and have actually stayed home today as well.

We will be looking at this.  There is a recent update to the chat which we have, but we have some issues with it that we are working to address.  I hope to have some feedback for you on this shortly.  Sorry this continues to be an ongoing thorn.

Thanks.

Hi, Bryon,
We had a chat last night. It seemed to go off without a hitch. There does seem to be an issue with the chat module.
I’ve attached screenshots of how the chat page appears when the chat window is visible to all (not only administrators).
As you will see it renders very oddly, and no rendering is accurate to the code.

When the chat module is invisible, however, the page renders just fine.

I’ve attached the screenshots of the page (all in Windows OS).

Hi, Bryon,
Thanks a lot. I really appreciate your looking into this for me. I’ll try this and let you know if I have any issues.

On this, it looks like we’re going to need a couple more URL redirects (as we are referring to these online quizzes in a printed letter). I’m sorry to ask on this short notice, but apparently we need them by Tuesday.
Here are the pages:
College Resume Quiz: https://admissions.creighton.edu/ProspectiveStudents/CollegeResumeQuiz/tabid/1324/Default.aspx
College Search Technology Quiz: https://admissions.creighton.edu/ProspectiveStudents/CollegeSearchTechnologyQuiz/tabid/1325/Default.aspx

Can we get the following redirects for these:
admissions.creighton.edu/resume-quiz
admissions.creighton.edu/technology-quiz

Hi Christian,

Here's what I'm referring to.

When calling the .JS file (renamed as a .txt for upload purposes) you will need to reference the location you uploaded it to. Just as if you were calling an image or anything else uploaded into AG.

Here's what I had to use to directly reference the AC_RunActiveContent.TXT file:
<script src="/Portals/0/bpktest/AC_RunActiveContent.TXT" ...

You just want to make sure the HTML knows exactly where to go (in the file structure) to find that file. In this case, I uploaded the AC_RunActiveContent.TXT file to the folder "bpktest", so I had to tell the HTML that's where the file exists.

The same is true when you are embedding the flash into the HTML. (in the AC_FL_RunContent function) You will need to make sure the 'src' and 'movie' files are directly referenced:
'src', '/Portals/0/bpktest/cu_college_technology_quiz'
'movie', '/Portals/0/bpktest/cu_college_technology_quiz'

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.

I think I understand most of this.

The one part I’m confused about is the direct reference to the swf and .txt files in the HTML. I’m not sure that I would know how to refer to these.  I’ve looked at the html , but would you mind sending me the modified html so that I can compare it?

Hi Christian / Darren,

I did some testing on this and was able to get the flash quiz to work as expected in a text/html module.

A few things to note:
    - You will need to upload the swf file to the site using the File Manager tool in AdmissionsGenie.
    - I simply copied the HTML content into the "source" in the text/html module and made a few modifications.
    - The File Manager tool does not accept .js files. In order to make this work, I had to save the .js file as a .txt file and upload it that way.
    - You will need to make direct references to the swf and .txt files in the HTML file so the module is able to locate them.

Other than the items noted above, this was relatively easy to complete.

Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this at all!

Christian-

When we discussed this previously, I thought we had determined that an import of content into the Text/HTML module would do the trick.  In order to fully answer your question, it is probably best if you send us the files in questions as a .zip file or similar archive, so we can answer the question and then share with you the actions to take in the future.

Does that work?

Bryon, anything to add?

Darren

Hi, Bryon,
We’ve got a couple flash-based quizzes that I’m creating for our search. When I export, it creates three files: an HTML, a .js file and a swf.

Several months ago, I had been in touch with Darren about trying to get one of these quizzes hosted on AG. We ended up doing it here on campus. But right now our campus web team is extremely understaffed, so I’m wondering if/how we might be able to get these on AG. Could you help me do that?

Does this even make any sense?

We’re hoping to send e-mails on Tuesday with links to the quizzes.

Christian

Christian, let us know if you can send the files in a ZIP. This way we can test and get back to you.

Hi, Bryon,
We’ve got a couple flash-based quizzes that I’m creating for our search.

Yours,
Christian

Re: Putting HTML/Flash files on AG

Hi, Bryon,
I managed to get both of my quizzes onto AG pages (those whose links I’ve sent you).
I wanted to find out if there has been any headway on those redirects.
Please let me know when you get a chance.

Christian

Hi, Bryon,
Thanks a lot.

Hi, Bryon,
We’ve got a couple flash-based quizzes that I’m creating for our search.

Yours,
Christian

RE: Putting HTML/Flash files on AG

Thanks,

Hi, Bryon,
I think I understand most of this.

The one part I’m confused about is the direct reference to the swf and .txt files in the HTML. I’m not sure that I would know how to refer to these.  I’ve looked at the html , but would you mind sending me the modified html so that I can compare it?

Christian

Thank you,

Hi,
If it’s all right, I’m sending you the attached as a test file, as I’m yet done with either of the quizzes yet.

Darren - Christian,

I'm thinking that would probably work best as you explained, in a Text/Html module.

It would be nice to test.

Christian, let us know if you can send the files in a ZIP. This way we can test and get back to you.

Darren
