Reseting password

Hi, Mary,
I took a look at this.

I’m not which username you were trying to use, but because I don’t see a security question in the screen shot you sent, it looks like it might have been one I created. Because I created it, I didn’t have to fill in nearly as many fields, including “security question.” If you were the average site user, you should see a question there.
Where you probably couldn’t type was in the question field, because that is something AG provides based on your initial  registration.

That doesn’t explain why the image link is broken. That’s probably a James Tower question because they built this page.
Yours,
Christian

Subject: CU Data File

Darren,

Christian and I have been looking at the file we create for AG along with the List & Attribute Managers in AG.  We think we know why our imported App Req data is not being presented correctly within AG.  If a student in our data file is app incomplete the labels for App Req 01 through App Req 08 will appear in each record.  A date associated with each of those App Req fields will appear in the file only if the student has completed that requirement.  AG needs to be smart enough to use the App Req date to populate both the App Req date and the associated App Req label.

In the example below Colton Jones does not have a high school transcript (App Req 04) date in our data file.  His App Req 04 attribute in AG should be blank.

In his AG record, App Req 04 is populated with High School Transcript and App Req Date 04 is populated with 11/28/07 (default date - date of the import).  If we presented this data to Colton via the Application Status Check List, he would show as complete, which would be incorrect as we are still missing his high school transcripts.   Chris is verifying for us that the imported values are being used for the application status check and not the web values.

I hope this helps.  Please let us know when this will be corrected within AG.

Thanks.

Darren,

I am a bit confused by your email.  In the 3rd paragraph you state that you will provide us with an update, but in the 4th paragraph you state that all records were to be updated last night.  Can you please clarify when the data will be corrected within AG.

Thanks.

Christian-

Good morning.  I have spent much of yesterday afternoon reviewing and chasing this issue yesterday.  Here is what we have discovered and what is being done currently.  (I have already shared this with you via IM as well this morning.)

The reason for what you are seeing is that we have encountered an issue we are updating the records and the process that is performing this work is timing out.  The records you have been referencing are part of those that have not yet been updated.  This is part of a reload as a result of changes made last week.  While more have been updated since your last check, it appears 12,000 remain...so they will not all be updated until today.

We recognize this as an unacceptable situation.  Thus yesterday we got a meeting between a number of individuals in DBA, programming and other areas organized for today in order to identify what needs to occur to correct this issue.  I will provide an update once the solution for correcting this issue is identified.

So, for the moment....all records should be updated by tonight......and long term we are working to fix this data update issue with the large number of records in the system.

Darren

Hi, Chris and Darren,
I’ve built the Application Checklist and started testing it out by populating some fake AG users with information for our App Req 01 – Req 08 website values. It seemed to be working fine. So we decided to check on a student that Orfa knows: Carli Culjat.

Here’s what comes up in Recruitment Plus:

But when we checked her in AG, there was no information for the imported values of App Req 01 – App Req 08.

Spot checking other applicants uncovered the same situation.

We want to get this up ASAP. Could you please let me know what’s happening, whether on our end or yours? And how we might fix it.
Yours,
Christian

Hi, Darren,
I am experiencing some very odd behavior on the community page:

As you can see from the screenshot, the features image (a text/html module) and the Profile Thumbnail preview module are appearing in ContentPane (above ContentPane1). And I can’t move them from there.

It started when I tried to place the Profile Thumbnail module on the Admitted page: https://admissions.creighton.edu/ProspectiveStudents/AdmittedStudents/tabid/376/Default.aspx

I added it from the Community Page. Everything seemed fine. Then I wanted to add the label above it. Well, there’s 4 or 5 “text/html” modules on the Community Page with no other name for the module, such as “features label” or “recently added profiles label,” so when I tried to add the right one, it turned out to be the wrong one. I decided to go the Community page to add descriptive titles to each label and discovered that whatever I had done on “Admitted” had changed the Community Page ( https://admissions.creighton.edu/tabid/591/Default.aspx).

And I can’t change it back.
Yours,
Christian

Re: Message Board RSS feeds broken

Hi, Darren,
Yes, I’m using another 3rd party widget for the blogs. It’s just that I don’t particularly like the options James Tower has for their feed reader styles, unless there are options I haven’t seen. I couldn’t find anything that worked like the one I have for the student blogs on the CU live page.

Hi, Darren,
Thanks for asking about this.
I asked on 10/23 whether you could host it and never heard definitely either way.
So I proceeded with having it hosted on creighton.edu.
Yours,
Christian

Hi, Darren,
Thanks for your feedback.
Regarding the placement of the content. I believe we would want it to exist off the home (admissions.creighton.edu/college_entrance_quiz.html).
Regarding your other comments: I have passed them on to Jan who is handling that.
Yours,
Christian

I was out of  the office on Friday due to travel, so sorry I haven't responded sooner to  this message.

I have people looking at what the issue is with  the file access you mention below.

Also, please  share where you would like this content to exist?  I am assuming, given  our conversations, that it is the Admitted students page?  Is that  correct?  Perhaps the home page?

Ok, I have  reviewed this quiz and run through it a few times.  Feedback:
1.   First, nice work.  I know you have largely used an existing  plug-in, but still, nice work.
2.  There are some misspellings and  typos throughout.  However, I won't point these out as you have likely  already identified them yourself and you are far more qualified to identify  that than I am.
3.  I would like to make suggestions on the wording  and content of a few of the questions if you are open to it.  My notes  are as follows and correspond to the page indicator in your bottom right  corner:  ( I hope this helps)

#1:   College Entrance Quiz....seems a little strong of a title and not fun.   Perhaps consider:  "Debunking Popular Admissions Myths.  Test  your Admission's I.Q.!!" or something along those lines.  "What do YOU  know about College Admissions?"  "What Colleges Want You to Know about  the Admissions Process."....something that doesn't force a student to be  "graded" or appear to do so.  Does this make sense?  In addition, I  would work with Jan to get a higher level quality for your header and footer  for the presentation, so that it matches the photos  better.

#2:  When applying to college or  university, high ACT or SAT scores are the most important factor.  If  your scores aren't high enough, your application will not be considered.   (suggested wording change to the question.)

In the  response, I would change the answer slightly to de-emphasize academic  success....since we are talking about the application review.  Maybe  something like:  "You're correct.  Classroom academic performance is  more important that your performance on standardized tests.  When  evaluating an application, your overall grades, test scores and other factors  will be evaluated together.  So, even if you are not satisfied with your  ACT or SAT score, there are a lot of other opportunities for you to shine in  the admissions process.

#3:   For this one, would you want to provide verbiage relative to AP  (advanced placement) rather than just saying challenging?  Isn't that  more the benchmark/verbiage?  I would also provide encouragement in the  answer.  Something like" Advanced Placement courses can be difficult, but  the benefits of enhancing your overall academic standing and the additional  knowledge you obtain are worth the effort.  Keep up the hard  work!!

#4:  Question:  Colleges prefer  students that are involved in a lot of different activities.
Answer:   False.  While involvement in a lot of activities can be viewed as a  positive, most colleges will prefer students with a significant level of  involvement and proven leadership in activities they are passionate about,  instead of limited involvement in a lot of general areas.  So, stick with  the activities you love and really make a difference!

#5:  (I  think this is fine overall...but since this is more of a parent issue,  perhaps....)  Recommendation letters should come from important people  that my parents know, whenever possible.

#6:  fine

#7:  Another opportunity to speak to  parents....without speaking to them.  Ala:  "Contacting the  Admissions office nonstop with phone calls, emails and letters, or having my  parents do so, will help me get admitted.

False.   Remember, the college or university you are interested in probably wants  you to attend just as bad as you want to be a student there.  But,  constant badgering by a parent or student via email can create a negative  perception.  Once your application has been sent, wait at least 7 days  and then call to confirm it has been received and is complete.  Also, ask  when you should expect a response.  From there, as tough as it might be,  the best option is to be patient and wait.  If you haven't heard from the  college following then they said they would contact you, it is appropriate to  do additional follow up at that point.

#8:  I  would consider a new approach to this question or eliminating it.  I  don't know that we are getting across what we want  here.

#9:  Fine.

A few  additional items:  The width of your stage needs adjustment so that the  wings are no visible.
I know we want to keep this "generic" but I wouldn't  be afraid of including a few Creighton plugs here and there.  I would  ESPECIALLY do so on the Quiz Results page.  Provide contact information  for the Admissions Office.  Also, I would include an opportunity to  submit an email address and/or phone number to have Admissions contact this  person.  Maybe have them indicate if they are a parent or student.   Finally, you might want to explain more about the web site.   Perhaps split the Thank you from the Results, if you can, so more can be  shared on each page?

What do you think?

Darren

Hi, Darren,
We would like to put our flash quiz for  our fall search on the website. I have attached the latest draft (though  probably not the final draft) with the required files, so that you can see  just what we want to upload. When I tried to upload the zip file, the site  came back with a “restricted file type” message, meaning that I couldn’t  upload files of these types.
How can I be able to do  that?
Yours,
Christian

RE: Message Board RSS feeds broken

Mary-

This came in late on Friday, as such it has not been fully looked at.  However, I did review it this evening and I am not seeing any issues with our AG functionality.  I have sent a response (which you were CC'd on) to Christian's original email asking for additional clarification.  Once he and I touch base Monday morning, I will provide additional feedback.

thanks.

Hi, Darren,
The RSS feeds from our two message boards, Ask a Student and Ask Admissions, are no longer working.
As a result we are getting an error on our CU Live chat.
Please have this fixed ASAP, as this is very important for visitors and receives a lot of views.

RE: Message Board RSS feeds broken

Christian-

I have spent time this evening looking at this and we need to touch base Monday morning and discuss.  The reason I ask is because the module appears to be working exactly as it should.  I have tested a few scenarios and they all functioned properly.

I know, at one time, you were using third party software or something that we do not support to feed variants of Ask Admissions and Ask a Student, the same way you and feeding from the blogs, weren't you?  Is this what wasn't working?

Either way, I need to ensure I understand exactly what you are seeing and we can address it Monday morning.

Chat functionality and performance issues

Christian-

Regarding the chat functionality and your complete failure of this item last night, here is what we know. Last night's chat session had multiple timeouts because of an error in a cleanup process in the Data server. The process that cleans up the connection logging file timed out and consequently did not clean-up the file. This caused a build up and eventually started to throw out connection errors, as there were too many items processing simultaneously.

This issue has been identified, tested and resolved. It is now working properly. I will have additional updates tomorrow, I am being promised. In addition, we have applied additional updates to the Chat module itself.

I know this answer does not atone for the frustration of last night. For that, I cannot apologize enough. I will have more for you tomorrow, as I am made aware.

Darren
