RE: Page is broken

Hey Christian,

I know I talked to you over IM but I wanted to make sure you get the rest of the code that you may need again for future reference.

What happened was the script in the page head was erroring due to the length. AG has a 500 character limit in this field and the script was getting cut off.

Here’s what was in there.

<SCRIPT TYPE="text/javascript">

<!--

// copyright 1999 Idocs, Inc. http://www.idocs.com/tags/

// Distribute this script freely, but please keep this

// notice with the code.

var rollOverArr=new Array();

function setrollover(OverImgSrc,pageImageName)

{

if (! document.images)return;

if (pageImageName == null)

    pageImageName = document.images[document.images.length-1].name;

rollOverArr[pageImageName]=new Object;

rollOverArr[pageImageName].overImg = new Image;

rollOverArr[pageImag

Let me know if you have questions or concerns.

Thank you,

I can’t do anything to the page anymore. Maybe it has something do with what I put in the header information, but maybe not. Either way, this page is dead to me. I have no Wayne Young web page.
So . . . could you figure out how to get it back or do I just need to redo it, delete and start again? Will that affect our redirects?

Hi, Bryon,
I’m trying to add rollover images to a side navigation (Faces of Creighton) on this page: https://admissions.creighton.edu/CULive/FacesofCreighton/DrWayneYoung/tabid/3311/Default.aspx

In the process, I think I broke the page. I pasted some code in the header, after which the page stopped responding. Is there a way to fix it?

Also, have you any good suggestions for rollover images. I think I did it wrong. Well, that’s pretty obvious, I guess.

Hi, Bryon,
The landing page skin is something I can work with Jan on.
Regarding the other, the skin with ContentPane1 (mainly). I would very much like to have just that as the main content area with ConentPane4 as well (as this is where I put our tracking code on each page). I have included the layered .psd that was supplied to us as JT was designing the pages for our site. I have removed or made invisible those layers that I would like to have invisible.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Yours,
Christian

Hi, Bryon,
Tj, Jan and I met today. The topic of skins came up. I’m wondering a couple things:

  1. How hard would it be and long might it take to get a skin that only has ContentPane1 in the main content area? I wouldn’t mind the other ContentPanes, so long as we could get rid of the gradient on the right in which the sidemenu sits. I have included a mockup of what I have in mind.
  2. What would you need from us if we wanted to redo the skin for the landing page: admissions.creighton.edu? Would a layered Photoshop document work? Any other specifications that I need to consider?

RE: Video Upload Server Timeout/Reset

Christian-

I haven’t seen (maybe I missed it) any feedback from Bryon on this…so here is something from my perspective.  We do not have a video compression guide, per se.  For me, it is about testing and application.  What are you using to complete your compressions?  What data rate/keyframes/codec…as well as how long is the video?  What is the application for which this is being applied.  That is how I typically determine compression/size.

We should touch base.  Missed you at eduWEB…however, you would have hated the venue.  (I did).  It was a Trump facility…and old.  It was smoky (they can still smoke in casinos until October and the only dining option other than a steakhouse was a crappy café and Hooters.  (I ate at Hooters twice on this trip…because the café sucked!!!)  Good conference this year though.  Did you keep up on the blogs?

Catch you later.

Darren

Given the concerns that both you and Darren expressed about our video file size, I wanted to find a guide for video compression for web deployment that is both well-compressed and nice looking.

Have you such a guide?

Also, is there any way I can ftp to the James Tower servers?
I’m going to have more videos (some may be over 10 mb if I can’t find my way around that).

I am a little late to the table in participating in this discussion…however, to Bryon’s point have you tried to size the video down?  9MB is really, for a video of this length, fairly sizeable.  I would recommend either shortening the video or considering different compression settings.

Is the video too big? Is there a size limit?

I am a little late to the table in participating in this discussion…however, to Bryon’s point have you tried to size the video down?  9MB is really, for a video of this length, fairly sizeable.  I would recommend either shortening the video or considering different compression settings.

Hi, Bryon,
I’m trying to load a video which I’m attaching (sorry, it’s big). I’ve tried on both Firefox (multiple times) and Safari.
Here are the errors I’m getting:

Firefox
The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.
    *   The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
          moments.
    *   If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
          connection.
    *   If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
          that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Safari
Safari can’t open the page.
Safari could not open the page “https://admissions.creighton.edu/Admin/FileManager/tabid/269/ctl/Edit/mid/730/ftype/File/rtab/269/Default.aspx?dest=video%5c” because the server is not responding.

Is the video too big? Is there a size limit?

Yours,
Christian

RE: Attribute Lists

Hi Christian,

Attached is a report showing which attributes are mapped to the import job and which ones are used in which forms on the site.  We don’t currently track the created date or creator for attributes or the module that the attribute is used in.

This should get you going in the right direction with the attributes.

Let me know if you have further questions or concerns at in regards to this report.

Hi, Bryon,
Orfa, Colleen and I met today about attributes in order to figure out which to use and which to use. We tried to use the Attribute Manager but realized that we needed more information than we could get out of it.

We were trying to find a report on the attributes, but didn’t so I thought I would ask you to see if we could get something like it:
Attribute name
Attribute type (module, portal or user)
Location (in which modules or pages the attribute is used)
Creation date
Creator (username, perhaps)

Is there any way to get something like that? If so, how soon might we be able to see that?
Barring that, we should probably set up a call with someone on your end that can walk us through the attributes so that we can determine is or is not used.

Yours,
Christian

RE: Articles Madness

Hi Christian,

After checking with the developers, they informed me that there is really no way to use the articles modules to filter by category.

The “Article List” module filters by article type, but none of them will filter by category.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns regarding this at all.

Thank you,

Subject: RE: Articles Madness

Hi Christian,

Attached is the drafted documentation for the article modules. There are now 5 article modules in the AG system:

·         Article Manager

·         Articles – My Interests

·         Article List

·         Articles – View All

·         Article Content

The reason there are now 5 modules is so that each module can be implemented on a separate page if necessary and used in different purposes.

The documentation goes into detail as to what each of the modules does but below is a quick summary of what each does.

1)    Article Manager: Central place to add, edit or maintain your articles

2)    Articles – My Interests: This brings up an Article Accordion module that shows my interest(standard) articles in an accordion view sorted by category

3)    Article List: This can be setup to display a specific number of Headline, Feature, or My Interest (standard) articles. This is what would normally display on your homepage as a list of links to articles.

4)    Articles – View All: This module will allow you to view all articles when the user clicks the “view all” link

5)    Article Content: This is where the articles content will actually display on the site.

As for what you are trying to do with categories, I’m not finding a way to do this at the moment. The categories really only apply to the “My Interest” articles only from what I can recall.

I hope this documentation as well as my descriptions help clear up some of your frustration points for the time being. I will check with the developers to make sure I’m not missing anything referring to the categories and see if they know of a way to accomplish what you are trying.

Let me know if you have questions or concerns in the meantime.

Hi, Bryon,
I’m getting frustrated by these new Articles modules. How do they work?
Why are there so many?

Basically, I’m trying to use the categories as a filter so that I can place certain kinds of stories on certain pages: outcomes, academics, omaha, etc.

But I’m having trouble finding which module (if any) will let me do this.

Please help ASAP.
