RE: NEST production side test user

Hi Christian,

Again – you should be able to create these users on the website side.

To create the user you simply need to pass user information into AG – via the daily import (we are not able to add an imported user).

Then you would need to create the user on the website – go into the User Manager and click “Add new User” or register the user on the site using the normal registration method.

The way we did this on beta was to create a web user and link them up to an already created imported account – in doing so, this breaks the link or cancels the possibility of that imported user to ever be linked to their correct web account. Doing this on live would risk breaking someone’s linked account.

The best way to do this would be to pass in a test user via the daily import to AG, once that imported data is in the system, then create and link that account to the web account that you had created.

Let me know if you have questions or concerns in doing this at all.

Thank you,

Hi, Bryon,
We’d like to create a test user for Pat Watson in AG production server.
What information do you need about her? She sent me her netid and email, below, but I imagine there’s more needed

Hi, Pat,
Orfa tells me that you have a test user in production on NEST. Could we make that test user an admitted student? Also, can I get the relevant information for that test user so that I can send it to James Tower to have them create an identical user in Admissions Genie? Does this make sense? Orfa would like to test in production before we let James Tower refresh our beta site, which they are itching to do.

RE: why is it that the right panel always ends up on the bottom on our site?

Hi Christian,

We’ve updated this on live and it is now wrapping. There should no longer be an issue in IE 6.0.

Our implementation team also noticed an issue in the footer image and corrected that on live as well.

Let me know if there are any further questions or concerns with this.

Thank you,

Hi Christian,

I’ve followed up with our implementation team on this again and they’ve come up with a couple possible solutions to the right panel issue.

It seems that the issue is caused by the width of the links in the sidebar. This can be controlled in a couple of ways.
1.)   The length of the link names can be shortened (I’m assuming this is not an ideal solution)

2.)   The CSS can be modified to wrap longer links.

Attached is a screenshot of what option 2 would look like.

Reminder that this issue is only applying to IE 6.0 but the fix would affect all browsers. Example if you chose option 2, these links would wrap in IE 6.0 and 7.0 and Firefox – everything.

Please let me know what you’d like to do in regards to this issue.

Mary has repeatedly asked me about this issue, for which Bryon started a ticket: 118816.

I told her that you guys were looking into it, but I wanted to see what you had discovered.

Here’s a couple examples:

Pages without sidemenu jump:

http://admissions.creighton.edu/Academics/HonorsLeadershipPrograms/tabid/287/Default.aspx

Hi, Darren,
Mary has repeatedly asked me about this issue, for which Bryon started a ticket: 118816.

I told her that you guys were looking into it, but I wanted to see what you had discovered.

Here’s a couple examples:

Pages without sidemenu jump:
http://admissions.creighton.edu/UAHome/tabid/259/Default.aspx
http://admissions.creighton.edu/Academics/HonorsLeadershipPrograms/tabid/287/Default.aspx

Pages with sidemenu jump:
http://admissions.creighton.edu/ProspectiveStudents/InternationalStudents/tabid/3698/Default.aspx
http://admissions.creighton.edu/ProspectiveStudents/InternationalStudents/RequirementsGraduate/tabid/3701/Default.aspx

The main difference is that it seems whenever I create a new page, we get the sidemenu jumping down. What am I doing wrong?

Yours,
Christian

Hi Christian,

I believe we’ve discussed this in the past. The issue is only showing up in IE 6. I haven’t experienced it in any other browser at this time.

Our implementation team has been trying to find a fix for this in IE 6.0 without causing it to break in IE 7.0 and other browsers.

So, it’s not something that you’re doing wrong. It is just the way that IE 6.0 is parsing the code against the way newer browsers are parsing the same code.

I’ll try to get a further update from the team to see if they’ve found any fix at this time.

Thank you,

I don’t have an immediate answer for you because I am not seeing the issue you are seeing.  Please see attached for the two URLs you indicated as having a sidemenu jump.

We will continue to look at this.  Just so I know…the screen capture you included…is it from you or from Mary?

Jayspace social networking promises

Hi, Darren,
Jan Kruse sent me some copy (see below) about the social networking capabilities of Jayspace. I think that once the wall is in place the “leave a note for a friend” is accurate. Right?

We are saying,  “Create and update your profile, post a photo, share personal information or leave a note for a friend.” in our blurb for JaySpace --- are you ok with that? Did I tell any lies?
