Re: Notes - questions

Hi, Mary,
You rock. These changes are really terrific. Thanks for much for your work on this. I’ve been singing the praises of the webteam and you in particular over here in Admissions.

Enjoy the weekend. I’ll see you next week.

Subject: Notes - questions

I’ll accumulate a few now instead of sending a stream.

1.        The gray of the footer text.  I think that maybe too dark, the contrast isn’t as good as I’d like.  Got to be mindful of those with visual problems.  I won’t use white but  lighter gray.

2.       Question – subpage navigation?  How are we going to translate this into the design?  You know the pages that were going to be the sections.

[55302] Requirements

[55303] Scholarships

[56287] Application Tips

[56289] Forms

3.       You can now (or rather you will be able to) choose your subpage layout (well you can change the home page too.  In a word don’t).

– we can discuss which columns do what – it doesn’t necessarily need to be what’s below

Normal (1 column) is a standard layout
                 left column = left callout (look to be decided)
                 right column = right callout (look to be decided)
                 normal column=main content area
                 border column=border callout (look to be decided)

2 columns
                left column = left callout (look to be decided)

               right column = the right side of main content
                 normal column=the left side of the main content
                  border column=border callout (look to be decided)

3 columns
                left column = the left side of main content

                              right column = the right side of main content
                               normal column=the center of the main content
                               border column=border callout (look to be decided)

              4 columns
                left column = the left side of main content

                              right column = the right center of main content
                               normal column=the left center of the main content
                               border column=the right side of main content

                 home page
                                this calls the html template for your home page.

I do not know if this will work in the mount point when viewing your subpages through the mount point.  I suspect not.  But I have a temporary subpage under the mount point I can show you on.

I’m in the process of getting the layout totally flexible (change width of the columns dependant on whether or not you have callouts in place).  And styling all the various flexible layouts.

So now for a break, I’m out tomorrow and next Tuesday.  I’ll be there on Wednesday but do have a meeting sometime that day.  If you need anything you know where to find us….

Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

RE: web site info

Yup, well you won’t have access to do this but I can (you can’t get to Therese’s pages).  Create the page you want the content to be on.  I’ll tell Typo3 to grab the content from the page you want in Financial Aid and display it on the Admissions page.  All Therese’s links on that page will remain correct but it will show using Admissions styling.

We can also use “insert Records” for a single or multiple elements (really you can pull all the page content that way too if you want).  I thought I showed you this but if not I’ll show you next week (I’m out tomorrow!).  But you still can’t grab Therese’s content.  If you want to do it when I’m not around ask Josh, Joe or even Cary (I think he knows how to do this) and they can do it for you.

Typo3 makes it easy to share content.

In light of Terese’s question and request that we update, we would like to be able to take the content element on their page and present it on our page. Can I do that? If not right now, how might I be allowed to do that?

RE: Jquery slideshow

I can usually adapt a slide show to any style (watch this will be the one case I can’t).

I do need to ask though…  does the text do anything?

Hi, Mary,
I was looking though the examples you sent me and really thought this best met our requirements:
http://sixrevisions.com/tutorials/javascript_tutorial/create-a-slick-and-accessible-slideshow-using-jquery/

  • It has a place for linked text
  • It looks well-structured

Do you think it can be made to look more like Peter’s design:

  • Bigger images
  • Arrows under the text
  • Gutter separating text and images

RE: Batting for the Webteam

I’ve pushed and shoved the root of the apply test page into the 960 grid system.  http://960.gs/.

I’ve not done anything with most of the segment content yet as I know it’s currently just junk.  I did leave the left and right callouts out of the grid system as I couldn’t think of how to include them and have it work.  They are however the same size as a grid5of24 section.

Grid layout is in the common stylesheet.

RE: Navigation and buttons

Another thing I realized as I read though Nichole’s blog this morning after watching the vid is that Peter designed it using a grid system.

I’ve not done that yet.  It’s not for lack of wanting to, mostly lack of time.  I need to go back through the HTML that’s being generated to adapt it to the grid system.

Thanks!

I actually thought the same thing last night while I was riding home (I think), realizing that .button is probably not the only class like that.
Yes .adm_main_nav_button or something  would be better or whatever we decide.

RE: Navigation and buttons

Hi Christian, I looked at the css you did for the navbuttons.  Since this is dynamically generated there is one change.  I told Typo3 to identify each.  If you look at the source code now you’ll see.

      <ul class="site-navigation">

      <li class="sitelist">

      <a href="admissions/undergraduateadmissions/aboutcreighton/index.php" class="nav_55296">About Creighton</a>

      </li>

      </ul>

Note that the link now has a specific class.  And since Typo3 knows it’s pages using unique id’s and not names, we need to do that too.

So instead of

a.about_button {

}

We’ll use

a.nav_55296 {

   ...

}

I’ll add this probably into the menu css but wanted to let you know that I changed it.
